J. David Allan is professor of conservation biology and ecosystem management in the School of Natural Resources and the Environment at the University of Michigan. Allan's teaching and research focuses on the influence of human alteration of the landscape on the health and status of river ecosystems. Current research includes geographic pattern of stream flow variability and its influence on fish communities in the Great Lakes basin; and the land-water linkages that influence stream ecosystem function in human-altered drainage basins of southeastern Michigan. He is the author of several books, including Streams: Their Ecology and Life (with C.E. Cushing), and Stream Ecology.
