From The British Library Richard Dawkins Richard Dawkins is currently Charles Simonyi Professor of the Public Understanding of Science at Oxford University but is best known for his research and writing on evolution. He originally proposed the concept of the meme in his book The Selfish Gene, first published in 1976. Other works include The Extended Phenotype, The Blind Watchmaker, River Out of Eden, Climbing Mount Improbable and, most recently, Unweaving the Rainbow.
