EDITOR'S INTRODUCTION |
Columbia professor Ira Katznelson cautions against responding to the September 11, 2001 attacks with an unyielding devotion to Western enlightenment as the right and only path. In a lecture held at Columbia University on October 16, 2001, Katznelson suggests using the attacks to analytically confront Western political liberalism, supporting the development of a "liberalism of fear" geared to prevent crises during times of significant uncertainty while allowing people to live together in harmonious pluralism. Katznelson goes on to provide guideposts for examining and altering political liberalism. |
